Club Sports Performance & Injury Prevention Program

The SPIP club program is designed to provide local sporting clubs with the latest and best available evidence on sport-specific performance and injury prevention to assist their players and coaches. By teaming up with sporting clubs and organisations, we can join the dots between research and participation in sport to keep players fitter and stronger for longer.

We start by collating the best available evidence on injuries related to a particular sport. From here, we are able to get an indication of the risk factors for injuries relevant to different age groups, genders, skill levels and positions for different sports. Using this research, clinical expertise and our practitioner’s experience in the specific sport, we develop a succinct group of outcome measures that will help us identify players at risk of injury and elements to improve sporting performance.

Once this has been developed, we coordinate a night during preseason at the partnered sporting club to run through the outcome measures with the players. This is conducted by our Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologist, with the help of club volunteers. The data collected on the night is then analysed to identify areas of weakness, injury risk factors and performance indicators. We then provide results and recommendations report to the club. This contains trends observed by our practitioners from the outcome measure data analysed, and recommendations to help improve these areas. The recommendations are tailored to the club interests and can include a warm-up routine, strength and conditioning program. We will adapt it to what your club’s desires and are happy to assist with the teaching and implementation of this program for your players.

Following this process, we will then collaborate with the sporting club to organise a session for the retesting of the outcome measures during mid-season. The aim of including a second-time point is to iron out any issues with the program, assess the club’s/team’s/individual player’s progress, get any feedback on injury status, and progress the recommendation program. Across all sports, one of the key features of injury prevention and improved performance is the ability to progress as improvements in skills and coordination, muscle strength and conditioning, balance and motor control occur.

Our aim at Target Physio is to work together with local clubs, coaches and players to enable them to continue to play their sport and support their development. Because we work directly with the club, you will get tailored information and recommendations to help achieve this. The SPIP is appropriate for any sport/club/organisation at any level of competition. We have targeted the program for ages 12 up to seniors, but are happy to discuss other options appropriate for your club.
If you would like to get involved with the SPIP program or find out more about it, please contact us on [email protected] with the subject line “SPIP”.

Target Physio Google Review

5 star review  Fiona from Target Physio has been helping me since 2007. and she has helped me overcome large obstacles in my life. From nearly never being able to walk again to now playing every sport under the sun, largely due to Fiona's influence and ongoing support. She helped me regain my confidence to overcome my injuries. I have continued to see her since. I also had another physio called Kit for a few weeks, who helped me recover from a minor head injury. The reception team always have a smile on their face even on mondays. The team at target physio are dedicated in helping people to achieve their best. Would highly recommend.
