We can help treat you ankle and foot injuries and return you to your optimum function and fitness!
Our feet are what connect our bodies to the earth giving them a large responsibility when it comes to determining the force transmission through our lower limbs and giving our brains information about the ground we stand on to maintain our balance. When we have pain in our feet or ankles, it can limit our participation in our jobs, schooling, sport and exercise and day-to-day activities. Our feet are our main mode of transport and keep us moving!
The foot and the ankle joints combined contain 28 bones and 29 muscles and are also aided by the plantar fascia. These muscles and joints have roles during posture, walking, exercise and sport and determine the shape of our feet.
A good balance between mobility and stability throughout the toes, foot and ankle is what allows us to walk and run. Too much mobility or too little mobility, due to stiffness, pain or swelling can limit the motion and directly impact the way we walk, run and move.
Development of pain or injury in the feet and ankles can be due to changes in our activity volumes and demands, or if the ranges of motion are pushed to the extreme during physical activity or when we lose our balance.
Common Foot and Ankle Conditions:
Ankle Ligament Sprains
Chronic Ankle Instability (CAI)
Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (Shin Splints)
In order to help the tissues in our feet and ankles recover, we often have to deload them with activity modifications and retraining walking and running patterns. In some cases, the use of crutches or other mobility aids is required to achieve this.
A progressive exercise program that targets all the skills and actions required of the foot and ankle can provide relief of pain and facilitate a return to full function and activity. A combination of strengthening, push off and landing training, activity modification and occupational strategies to maximise loading capacity and function can be used to reduce symptoms.
The Target Physio team can help you get back on your feet!
Finally I found a physio team who really understand "workout despite injury". In Target Physio I don't feel I am patient and too injured or old to do daily gym exercise. They have thought me why, how and what should I do in the gym to improve my strength and help recovering my injured knees.
